Doubles sentences for paedophiles

The Ministry of Justice, Mr. Mihajlo Manevski, proposed immediate changes in the Criminal Code and doubled the sentences for child abuse. The immediate changes took place after the meeting of the Government around three weeks ago. Manevski was designated in charge of preparing more severe punishments for sexual assault over children, after it was concluded that the paedophilia in Macedonia was still in progress.

The European legislature have no mercy on paedophiles. The most severe punishments are passed, most common being life imprisonment. In Norway the paedophiles are having a microchip-locators implanted, whereas in Denmark chemical castration is done to paedophiles recidivists.

Institutions taken over by the case of raped sisters

The horrible case of the two girls who three months have been victims of sexual abuse by their father, seems to overtake the responsible institutions, so yesterday they unconvincingly rejected all the responsibility for the incident. The First Children’s Embassy in the World Megjashi, Republic of Macedonia sees the guilt for all the case in the Skopje Center for Social Welfare (CSW) which was responsible for the taking care of the two little girls in the sleeping quarters in the Skopje village Ljubanci.

Introverted and under a huge pressure and fear that he might be returned to the Home “11 Oktomvri” is the everyday feeling of little Atanasko. He sleeps with his mother, doesn’t socialize with the other kids, and doesn’t go to school.

Last chance for biological parents to return the child

Next week little Boshko is having a consilium examination. Afterwards, his biological parents may decide whether to take him or not for the last time. If they definitely give up, they shall lose their parental right by signing statements. Thus, Boshko may be adopted.

Ombudsman has responded to the written request made by the First Children’s Embassy in the World – Megjashi, Republic of Macedonia, on the case about Agush Salioski.

“The Ministry for Health has reported to the Ombudsman that during the professional supervision the Commission also found professional failures, i.e. the wound was not surgically treated on time, the changes on the condition of the arm were not noticed on time, the plaster was not removed entirely...”

In the period 10-14 November, in Sofia, Bulgaria, there was a Conference on the topic –The child as a witness in the criminal procedure –multidisciplinary approach.

On 25.12.2008, in the facilities of the Psychiatric Clinic, the First Children’s Embassy in the World Megjashi organized training on -Identifying different forms of abuse and neglect of children.

Building a Culture of Children’s Participation

The lack of mechanisms for hearing the children’s voice is the reason why their voice hasn’t been heard, as well as the reason why the children are not active participants in the making and creation of changes. The project Building culture for children’s participation is one important step forward to achievement of this aim.
