Eight more students have reported the professor for abuse. After three of the abused students have reported the paedophile professor, eight more students have plucked the courage to do so. The headmaster of the school, Elisabeta Angeleska, has announced that they are planning to introduce professional help for the abused children so that they can heal faster.
Professor J.I. (57) who is behind bars, is suspected of sexually abusing students in the third and fourth year in the past two years at the school. Instead of teaching, he would lock the door and force the students to watch porn films or clips on the computer. If the student opposed, he threatened to write an F in history and fail the academic year. He didn’t let the student leave from his classroom until he was sexually pleased. The professor was arrested on December 16 when one of the abused students plucked the courage and reported this at his class teacher. Then the reports of the other abused children followed.
The post of the arrested professor is in stagnation. According to the Law of labour relations, if the professor does not appear at work for six months, and is kept under detention, then his post is in stagnation. If not arrested, then he is to be suspended from work.
- When we found out about the case we prepared a suspension for the professor. But, since he was arrested the next day and was assigned custody, his post, in accordance with the law, is put in stagnation. Right after the unpleasant incident, a new professor in history was hired in the school by immediate procedure - says the headmaster of the high school, Elisabeta Angeleska.
The police has searched the history classroom in which the accused has been lecturing. The computer, magazines and CDs with pornographic content have been confiscated. The computer was official and was allotted with the project “Computer for every child”
- The computers were official and allotted to all professors. We cannot know what our colleagues keep in their computers. We have given them a computer for teaching purposes and each professor should do his job conscientiously - said Angeleska.
The headmaster has informed us that the case was submitted to the Ministry of education. According to her, such incidents should not happen in the future, and measures should be taken at the level of all schools.
I have not talked to anyone of the ministry officials about prevention. I think that systematic measures should be taken, at the level of all schools. When we employ the professors and teachers, their character is not obvious, and whether they have any mental issues, and so in my opinion, tests should be carried out before they are employed - said Angeleska.
The arrested professor was considered an authoritative and strict professor, and was respected among the colleagues as an older colleague with more than 30 years of working experience. The professors at the schools have accepted the information on the incident with disbelief.
MEGJASHI – It takes more than condemnation
Sexual harassment of students in elementary and secondary schools is a problem that is increasingly facing the children and youth, according to the First Children’s Embassy in the World - MEGJASHI.
Alarmingly is that children because of fear, threats and dependence on teachers - paedophiles who abuse their power are silent and don’t report the sexual harassment.
In most cases the child victims have lifelong consequences.
Sexual harassment of children is the worse abuse, major violation of children’s rights and initiates a bigger need for not only condemnation, worry, anger of the public institutions but also claim of responsibility when the children are victims of the paedophiles in schools, from the ones in charge and ultimately the responsibility of all involved in pedagogical - psychological services not only for prevention, but also to encourage children to report the abuser – according to Dragi Zmijanac from the First Children’s Embassy in the World MEGJASHI.
According to Zmijanac, children should be educated about what they can do if found in a dangerous situation and with whom to discuss it.
Schools must cooperate with the police more intensively in any way (mail, orally, by telephone) with the students and parents, citizens, neighbours, professionals from the Centres for social work and civic society organizations. – says Zmijanac
The paedophile professor was awarded best professor in Skopje?!
The history teacher, who sexually harassed his students at a high school in Skopje, was seen to be principled educational worker, for which he even was awarded by local authorities. But his 12 children, who submitted an appeal for sexual harassment done by him, proved that this was not the case.
Their teacher forced them to stay locked inside a classroom, where they usually were made watch pornography online, while at the same time being exploited by him.
The victims are now upset and scared. Some of them even used to think and say that they fear, because they thought that the gorilla would come after and kill them.
However, the professor confirmed the crime while being at the police station. Additionally, he even presumed of two other boys to have reported the crime. Their names do not correspond to those who previously submitted written statements, which means that he confessed to have abused two more victims, expanding further investigation.
The 57 year-old professor of history is in custody, accused of sexual abuse by the abuse of position. His target victims who come from rural areas, taking in advantage the fact that their parent-child relation appear to be more conservative.
