International supervision – case study*Child – witness and sexual abuse against children*
 
On 21 October 2010, First Children’s Embassy in the World “Megjashi” organized an international supervision - case study on “Child – witness and sexual abuse against children” in which a foreign supervisor took participation – Diana Ruseva from Institute for Social Practices of Bulgaria.

The supervision took place at the municipality of Kisela Voda and was held in order to provide more efficient system of direct help for this category of children in the region, through increasing the awareness about the problem, and better expertise by the professionals who work with children exposed to abuse and violence as well.

According to the subject, people who work and are affected by this issue participated on the supervision, such as judges, prosecutors, representatives from the Ministry of Interior – juvenile delinquency section, representatives of electronic and printed media who inform about cases of sexual abuse against children and representatives of the First Children’s Embassy in the World “Megjashi.”

There was a presentation of three cases of sexual abuse against children reported on the helpline 0800 1 2222 of the First Children’s Embassy in the World “Megjashi” and were analyzed by the participants of the supervision. The case study provided an exchange of views by the professionals who work on the field of children’s rights protection to work better into the system of protection of the children in Republic of Macedonia, despite its negative aspects.

The international supervision is part of the activities of the First Children’s Embassy in the World “Megjashi” in order to implement the Regional Program “Childhood without violence – toward better system of children’s protection in Eastern Europe.”

Seven countries from Eastern Europe take participation in this project and they work toward developing of regional standards in the area of neglect and abuse against children; educating professionals who deal with violence against children and support through networking, exchange of good practices, contacts with international experts and so on.
