To The OmbudsmanSubject: Writ

Respected,

On October 24th, 2009, over 100 persons of Roma nationality were accommodated in the children’s recreation center “Ljubanci” in Skopska Crna Gora, as a form of institutional accommodation. Of these, 60 are children.

This recreation center does not provide the basic existence conditions for life with dignity of these people. The rooms have no heating, while the food provided is often with expired date and does not provide for the basic standards of healthy food. The children are not included in the education process, although both primary and secondary school are compulsory in the Republic of Macedonia. The children do not have the basic health care, because this institution does not have a medical service that would provide such care.

The First Children’s Embassy in the World “Megjashi”, which protects children’s rights guaranteed by the Convention on Children’s Rights, appeals for urgent review of this case and undertaking appropriate measures and activities for protection of these children. This is because in this way their appropriate growth and development is being obstructed and many of their basic rights are abated.

In expect for your response, we thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Sincerely,
Angelina Chalakovska
