SOS - telephone of the hopeFirst World Children’s Embassy MEGJASHI is part of the international network Child Helpline International – which unites SOS services for help of children from the countries world wide. The international day of the SOS lines took part for its celebration on the 17 of May.
 
Last year 360 calls were register on the SOS telephone for children and young 0800 12222 of the First World Children’s Embassy MEGJASHI and reacted in 199 cases. From all these calls, 39,19 % were regarding problems of abuse and violence upon children, 34,17 for family relations, 7, 35 for legal matters, for school problems were 5,53 and for prostitution, begging and juvenile delinquency 2,51%. “Megjashi” published this information due to the 17 of May - The international day of the SOS lines.

Cooperation

Within the last two years of working of the SOS helpline for children and youth, First Children’s Embassy in the World MEGJASHI cooperated and exchanged experience with the SOS helplines from Belgrade and Nish, with SOS helplines from Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, and Netherland and with SOS helplines for women and children – victims of violence from Skopje. Also cooperation was established with SOS service for children and youth from Frankfurt.

Multidisciplinary team

Multidisciplinary team is involved in the work of the SOS telephone, which is consisted of psychologists, social workers, pedagogue, journalist and lawyers. Different age categories of volunteers are involved in the team, but not older than 40 years. Lawyers inform the children for their rights through SOS service and media twice a month, and journalist stimulate young people through the radio and television with actual themes such as children and poverty, rape, children and the government, health education issues,  traffic security etc. which are actual and existing problems in the society.

Volunteers

This service is provided by many young people, students and professionals - psychologists, social workers and lawyer. They are the first ones facing the urge for help. At the same time, the First World Children’s Embassy MEGJASHI, cooperates with the Ombudsman, upon taken action on these cases, and for certain cases when there is a need the embassy directs its intervention towards the police, courts, Centers for social work, schools and other relevant institutions.

Appeal

Megjashi representatives appeal towards the representatives of the Government, local self government, telecommunications services and social responsible business partners to support financially all the SOS lines for children help.

Since 2005 “Macedonian telecommunications” has provided a free of charge SOS helpline for children and youth.
