The beaten child from Pehchevo affected by mange, tooFor the time being we are not informed whether the eleven year old child from Pehchevo has come down with the infectious disease due to the treatment in the Orphanage “ 11 October”, stated from First Children’s Embassy in the World Megashi.

The eleven year old child from Pehchevo who suffers from cancer and, who run away from the Orphanage “ 11 October” in Skopje since it was beaten, yesterday was examined by a doctor who diagnosed mange, too. The sick boy had been scratching all over the body when he got home. It is still unknown whether the child has come down with the infectious disease due to the treatment in the Orphanage “ 11 October”. The child claims that he was beaten by the tutors in the Orphanage, it didn’t receive the necessary medical care for 20 days and his under wear wasn’t regularly changed. The case that was revealed on behalf of the First Children’s Embassy in the World Megashi, attracted the attention of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy as well as of the national procurator. Furthermore, the doctor diagnosed mange, but we may not know whether the illness was a result of his treatment in the orphanage. The boy is in grave health condition and it is questionable why he wasn’t taken to hospital when it is clear that he may not receive adequate care in the orphanage. This case raises the issue of the so called victimization of the children. If they are victims of family violence, they should not be departed from the home; on the contrary, the bully is the one who should be removed from the home, stated Embassy Megashi. Yesterday we spoke with the child that is now at home with his parents, but the two years younger sister is still in the Orphanage.

-I don’t want to go back to the Orphanage because it is where I was beaten and maltreated. I feel comfortable at home and I want my sister to be at home too. I feel much better now and I don’t want to hear about going back in the orphanage-says the child whose identity shall not be reveled because of justified reasons. The ill child’s mother says that on 4. December this year the Social Service took away the children while they were at school, without any written notification. She asks help in the resolution of the case and denounces that she had been a victim of violence.

-Mu husband has a heart disease and is a diabetes sufferer. He doesn’t drink any alcohol. I don’t know where all these stories of us as victims of family violence came from -say the mother. Her child confirmed that their father has never beaten them.

-If they beat me I wouldn’t came back home. It is not true that my father is alcoholic-says the child. The eleven year old child terrified from the case, threatened that he would through himself under a vehicle if they put him back in the Orphanage. For now, children’s destiny is uncertain. Their mother explains that they should be returned at home in Pehchevo. On the other hand, the Welfare Center in Berovo claims that it is necessary for the children to be under protection, and that they should be out of the home till the problems at home are settled.

Center’s expert team reckons that the parents are not fulfilling their parental obligations appropriately and that the children have continually been victims to family violence. For that reason, the Center monitors the fulfillment of the parental obligations, with intention, if it’s necessary to call for a judicial procedure for renouncement of the parental right of the both parents. Dragi Zmijanac, Director of Children’s Embassy Megashistated that renouncement of the parental right is a rigorous action that is not necessary in this case.

-         Renouncement of the parental right is justified only in cases where parents sexually abuse their children. In this case the children should not be taken away from the mother-explains Mr. Zmijanac. Yesterday representatives from the office of the national procurator met the acting director of the Orphanage Sonja Mitasheva-Josifovska. “I don’t know why we can’t receive authorized report for his case from Embassy Megashi. The case has been investigated but we may not comment the accusations before receiving report”, stated Mitasheva. According to Zmijanac, the case of the child from Pehchevo shows how much the Orphanages “care” for their dependants.
